Did you know that Walgreens, our nation’s largest drugstore chain- a store where we shop for many of our healthcare needs for our children and ourselves-does not have a comprehensive policy to address toxic chemicals in products they carry in their stores?
Sure, they’ve developed their “Ology™” brand of products that is free of phthalates as well as other risky chemicals such as parabens, formaldehyde, and triclosan. But they have not used their significant purchasing power to move their suppliers to reduce, eliminate, or safely substitute the Hazardous 100+ chemicals. Consumers should be able to be confident that any items they purchase at Walgreens are free of toxic chemicals. That is why we are participating in a national action to send the message from the ground up that people want to be able to purchase non-toxic products.
It’s time to take action and tell Walgreens to take their customers’ overall health into consideration by adopting a comprehensive toxics policy that really supports wellness.
*The petition calling on Walgreens to adopt a comprehensive chemical policy to address toxic chemicals in the products they carry has ended.
Why is this important?
Many consumer products like the sunscreen, baby shampoo, nail polish, or shower curtain you buy at Walgreens contain chemicals that are linked to chronic diseases and health conditions, including cancer, reduced fertility, and developmental disabilities. Phthalates, for example, a class of chemicals widely used to soften plastics and carry fragrance, have been linked to reduced fertility, asthma, and obesity.
Join us in telling Walgreens we know they can do better.
