The Toxic-Free Legacy Coalition

TFF coordinates and leads this alliance of over 60 Washington state health, environmental, and community organizations. Members of this group are working to protect health and the environment from toxic chemicals. The TFL Coalition has successfully helped pass ground breaking laws banning mercury, toxic flame retardants, lead, cadmium, phthalates and BPA in consumer products, and helped pass the first ever law requiring children’s product manufacturers to report the presence of toxic chemicals in their products. The TFL Coalition is led by a steering committee of TFF, Earth Ministry, Arc of WA, and Progreso: Latin Progress.

Earth Ministry

For 25 years, Earth Ministry has been a national leader in engaging the religious community in environmental stewardship and advocacy. Faith leaders provide an important moral voice in these campaigns.

Arc of Washington State

The Arc of Washington State advocates for the rights and full participation of all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  The network of members and chapters support, empower, and connect individuals and families to the existing service systems. Arc works to improve services, influence public policy, increase public awareness, and inspire inclusive communities.

Latino Community Fund and Progreso: Latino Progress

Latino Community Fund invests in Latino communities to cultivate leaders, support effective organizations, and improve the quality of life for all Washingtonians. LCF has built effective programs to improve health access, build the skills of nonprofit leaders and youth, and advocate for racial equity.

“Because exposure to toxic pollutants disproportionately effect people of color, Latino Community Fund and Progreso support reforms that eliminate these pollutants which lead to negative health and education of Latino children and families,” Peter Bloch Garcia, Executive Director, Latino Community Fund.

Progreso: Latino Progress works for fair representation for Latinos in Washington State. Progreso has focused on advocacy, electoral organizing, and coalition building for numerous issues that affect Latinos and people of color, including education, voting rights, immigration, and environmental justice.

Safer States

TFF plays a lead role in Safer States, a network of diverse environmental health coalitions and organizations in states across the country that share a bold and urgent vision: families, communities, and the environment should be protected from the devastating impacts of our society’s heavy use of chemicals. TFF is a founding member of Safer States and provides policy and science support to help win state campaigns for stronger laws on toxic chemicals. Read more about our work with Safer States here.

Washington State Fire Service Organizations

TFF works with both the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters and the Washington Fire Chiefs to eliminate harmful toxic flame retardants from consumer products and to advance toxic-free fire safety solutions. Fire fighters contract certain cancers and other diseases in higher numbers than the general population. When toxic chemicals found in furniture, building materials, and other household products burn, firefighters absorb the chemicals and byproducts of combustion through their skin and respiratory systems at numerous stages of a fire. TFF is working to protect the health of firefighters by eliminating toxic flame retardants and other chemicals that can contribute to their higher rates of cancer.
