Washington, DC—Citing her record on PFAS chemicals and asbestos, Sens. Shelley Moore Capito (R-West Virginia) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) yesterday announced they would oppose President Trump’s nomination of Nancy Beck to chair the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

In response, Safer Chemicals Healthy Families Director Liz Hitchcock issued the following statement:

“Nancy Beck’s record shows that she’s the wrong choice to protect consumers from dangerous products. It is great to hear Senator Capito and Senator Collins speaking out in opposition to Nancy Beck’s nomination to chair the CPSC. Thousands of people contacted their senators and hundreds of organizations and scientists wrote to the Senate to speak out against this nomination.

The President should withdraw this hazardous nomination.  Consumers need a public health and safety advocate running the CPSC.  We don’t need a chemical industry insider who has promoted the chemical industry’s interest at every turn.”
