Two separate, but related, actions last week were noteworthy in achieving the goals of the Healthy Olympia Task Force, a group formed in January 2004 to reduce exposure to toxic chemicals in South Sound.
Students, parents and volunteers at Roosevelt Elementary School in Olympia put the finishing touches on a Waterwise Garden on the school playgrounds that will be pesticide-free, water-efficient, a haven for birds, bees and butterflies, and a place for students to gather and study nature.
Earlier in the week, the Olympia City Council approved a plan to limit the use of pesticides in city parks through adoption of an integrated pest management plan. …
