Tell Senator Murray: Protect Washington state’s strong chemical safety laws
The chemical lobby is pushing Congress to “reform” the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)—a move that could weaken federal protections and undermine our progress in Washington state.
Washington’s landmark Safer Products for Washington (SPW) law made our state a national leader in chemical safety. By eliminating toxic chemicals like PFAS “forever chemicals” and toxic flame retardants from everyday products, SPW is protecting families, communities, and our environment.
These changes could even undermine Washington’s ability to ban PFAS in products. Washington state taxpayers are already spending tens of millions of dollars each year cleaning up drinking water and communities. The state is also dealing with devastating impacts on salmon and huge costs from the use of 6PPD in tires. It is outrageous to even consider taking away Washington state’s rights to ban chemicals when it’s a critical part of the solution and will save taxpayers money.
Senator Patty Murray holds a key role on the Senate Appropriations Committee and can play a pivotal role in stopping the chemical industry’s plans from moving forward. But she needs to hear from you.
Tell Senator Murray to oppose efforts to reopen TSCA and protect Washington’s chemical safety progress!
