Right now, the Washington state legislature is considering two bills that would ban the use of a tire chemical called 6PPD that comes out of tires, breaks down, and kills Coho salmon.

The bills HB 2421/SB 6119 would ban 6PPD and regrettable substitutes in tires by 2035.

The state has spent tens of millions of dollars studying the problem and trying to mitigate the damage to salmon and the ecosystem.

A critical provision of these bills is a ban on regrettable substitutes. Right now the tire industry could move to 7PPD, which is a bad option. Without legislative action, we could just be repeating this crisis in a decade.

Act today: tell your legislator to support these bills that ban toxic 6PPD and regrettable substitutes to protect salmon and our health.
