I’m a new parent. So when I saw Toxic-Free Future’s new study showing that highly toxic flame retardants – and lots of them –are leaking out of nap mats many kids sleep on in childcare centers, my first reaction was, “What?! You have got to be kidding!”
The good news is we can do something about it. This study also shows that by removing flame retardants from products like nap mats we can significantly lower kids’ exposures. This is the kind of science I love from Toxic-Free Future’s experts – science that shows how to solve real world issues.
I know that any parent or caretaker wants to make the best choices possible to ensure children are healthy, happy, and toxic-free. But often we can’t make an informed choice because companies aren’t required to tell us what chemicals they use in their products!
Soon my tiny son will be at a childcare center for over 40 hours a week. There is no reason why he, or any child, should be exposed day in and day out to chemicals that will do his developing brain and body such irrevocable harm.
That’s why I’m grateful to work at an organization that leads the way. Toxic-Free Future conducts science that exposes how children are put at risk and finds solutions to protect their health! Toxic-Free Future gives us all a chance to engage in the fight for safer alternatives, safer kids, safer lives.
But we need your support to do it. Help us demand that companies using toxic chemicals change their ways and that public policy and laws protect our kids.
