Volunteer spotlight: Yoonji Shin

Yoonji Shin graduated this year from the University of Washington, Bothell campus. She joined us this spring as a research assistant. She researched third-party certifications for safer products, with a focus on certifications for textile products. This analysis informs the Mind the Store campaign’s work with retailers, who often rely on these certifications to ensure their products are free of certain toxic chemicals. Yoonji dug into the specifics of which chemicals are addressed, what levels are allowed, and how the certifications work. Thank you, Yoonji!

Yoonji writes, “Becoming a student research assistant was really eye opening to me in the research field. It provides me opportunities of making a positive social impact for safer products.” She has already started a position as a clinical research assistant at EvergreenHealth.
