Director of Institutional Giving

POSITION SUMMARY 

Toxic-Free Future (TFF), a 40-year-old, Seattle-based national non-profit organization that is growing, dynamic, and full of dedicated, smart individuals fighting for the health of people and our planet is looking for a Director of Institutional Giving to join our team.

The Director of Institutional Giving holds a critical role in the organization, developing and implementing a successful program to secure funding from new and existing institutional sources to support our growth.

A successful Director of Institutional Giving will be passionate about TFF’s mission, bring motivation and a willingness try new approaches, work collaboratively with TFF’s program directors, and have strong writing, marketing, relationship-building, and communication skills. The role also requires self-discipline, flexibility, creativity, and the ability to learn and translate our strategies and activities into compelling narratives to attract support.

The position reports to the Executive Director and works with program directors to identify targeted funding for each program and for the organization as a whole.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct program for all sources of foundation, donor advised funds, and government grants for a roughly $2 million budget.
  • Develop relationships with foundation and other institutional contacts, communicating on a regular basis for check-ins and providing timely updates on TFF’s activities and achievements.
  • Research, identify, and analyze foundation, donor advised funds, and government funding opportunities and develop and implement a strategy for meeting goals.
  • Manage grants database, calendar, and staff responsible for contributing to proposal and reports ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate, write, and submit grant applications, track grant completion and compliance, and complete necessary reporting.
  • Identify and research new foundation and government grant prospects.
  • Work collaboratively with program directors to understand the work and needs of the programs and develop compelling pitches for funding.
  • Work closely with the Director of Finance and Administration to ensure preparation of complete and accurate financial information required for each proposal and report.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A demonstrated passion for protecting health and the environment from toxic pollution and advancing safer solutions.
  • Two to four years’ experience in nonprofit fund development, fundraising management, and grant writing or related field that included a strong communications or marketing component.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of nonprofit fund development, and proficiency in grant administration, proposal management, and foundation stewardship.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of policy campaigning, organizing, advocacy, and organizational evaluation and project metrics.
  • Demonstrated comfort with technology and familiarity with computer databases and MS Office software. Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.
  • Strong written, presentation, project management and organization skills.
  • Ability to understand and distill complex science and government and corporate policies into compelling content that engages funders.
  • Ability to take initiative and work with limited supervision.
  • Results-oriented, flexible, creative thinker able to work on a range of projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently but also collaboratively and flexibly with all colleagues.

COMPENSATION

This is a full time, exempt position. Starting salary is $80,000-85,000 annually.
