Michael is a firefighter and the Legislative Liaison for the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters (WSCFF). WSCFF is a key partner in our victory to restrict the use of toxic nonstick chemicals in firefighting foam, as well as in our work to stop the use of toxic flame retardants.
Here’s what he had to say about partnering with Toxic-Free Future:
“Cancer is the leading cause of death of firefighters, so reducing firefighter exposure to toxic chemicals is a big concern for us. That’s why we partnered with Toxic-Free Future to eliminate sources of the cancer-causing chemicals firefighters are exposed to on the job.
I am proud to have worked with Toxic-Free Future’s dedicated staff to pass a first-in-the-nation ban on toxic nonstick chemicals in firefighting foam. I’m not an expert in toxic chemicals. I depend on their science expertise to make the problems we face with cancer-causing chemicals understandable to legislators and to my fellow firefighters.
Toxic-Free Future is relentless in their advocacy. They never back down even the face of strong chemical industry opposition. They may not be firefighters, but they are tough!”
We are grateful for our partnership with the WSCFF. Thanks to Michael’s work, firefighters are getting the health protections they need. Your support makes these kinds of partnerships and victories possible.
