We are looking for summer interns!

Launched in 2009, the Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families coalition runs the national campaign to protect public health from toxic chemicals in everyday products. We’re challenging Congress to fix our broken chemical safety system by overhauling the obsolete federal law that allows toxic and untested chemicals in our homes and bodies.

Digital Communications Internship

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented Communications intern to work with a national coalition. This position would report to the Campaign Associate, Alesia Lucas, and would assist in a variety of tasks including: copy editing, blogging, research, social and digital media. The Communications Intern will be expected to work in our office a minimum of 3 days a week, Jun-Aug 2015. Intern will receive a stipend.

Responsibilities

• Work on special projects including research and document preparation.
• Support of organizing efforts and social media management and postings.
• Responsible for research in preparation for blogs and articles
• Authoring blogs for the coalition website
• Comfortable working in a virtual organization in a supported independent context, and with colleagues at different locations without daily interaction
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements 
Must be a current college student with relevant coursework in communications, journalism, English, or political science and a strong interest in environmental issues and toxic chemical legislation reform.

Skills 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Exhibit a high level of attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software required
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced work environment
• Ability to execute many tasks simultaneously
• Ability to work as a team member as well as independently
• Strong preference given to candidate with experience with WordPress
• Ability to learn new skills and issue area

Environmental Policy Internship

Interested in advocacy? Consider yourself an organizer? Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families is looking for people like you for a summer environmental policy internship. This position would mainly report to the Director and Program Associate of Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families and would assist with a variety of tasks including research, blogging, and administrative work. The Policy Intern will be expected to work in our office three to five days a week, June to August 2015. A stipend will be provided. Please apply with a formal cover letter and resume.

Responsibilities

• Work on special projects including research for document and presentation preparation
• Assist with administrative tasks varying from note taking and scheduling to mailing and database management
• Conduct research in preparation for blogs, articles, and organizational legal compliance
• Author 2 blogs monthly for coalition website
• Support event and meeting preparation
• Perform other tasks as assigned

Requirements

Must be a current college or grad student with relevant coursework in political science, public health policy, environment science, and a strong interest in environmental issues, green chemistry and/or toxic chemical law reform.

Note: We will not provide housing for the summer. We recommend obtaining housing in Washington, DC to minimize commute times, as the interns are expected to work out of SCHF’s office in Washington, DC.
