A Less Toxic Spring Break With the Jersey Shore

The cold is here, but spring is less than 15 days away! It may still be winter, but we here at Safer Chemicals Healthy Families like to have a little fun and look on the bright side.

As we prepare for warmer weather we couldn’t help but reminisce about the smash hit reality TV show Jersey Shore, because who doesn’t think of the Jersey Shore when they think of toxic chemicals?

We hope you enjoy this warm weather toxic tips post as much as we do!

Popular sunblocks have been found to include parabens and formaldeyhyde, two hormone-disrupting toxic chemicals. But we know how important it is to wear sunscreen, fret not! Check out this blog from our friend SafeMama, who found some great sunscreens that protect our skin from the sun, minus some toxic ingredients.

Some people hit the tanning booths (like our friends at Jersey Shore) before hitting the beach. Tanning booths have been linked to an increase cancer risk. As a result, some people have turned the artificial route with spray tans…

Folding chairs are often made of PVC or vinyl coated fabrics. Last year we released product testing that revealed lawn chairs containing phthalates, lead, and organotins which have been linked to infertility, heart and brain damage…

Pretty shocking stuff.

Toxic chemicals are hard to avoid, but we are working hard to urge the top ten retailers to get tough on toxic chemicals. The time is now for retailers to take a leadership role and create comprehensive policies on toxic chemicals that will protect their customers, public health and the environment.

2014 is going to be the year for retailers to think deeply and act on toxic chemicals. Ask retailers to get tough on toxic chemicals!

Join our movement and have a fun and safe vacation wherever it may be.
